Australia's Largest
Schoolgirls' Regatta

Constituted in 1984, the Head of the Schoolgirls' Regatta first raced in 1985 at Ballarat — 7 events, 16 schools, 240 competitors. Today it stands as the largest schoolgirls' rowing regatta in Australia and the Southern Hemisphere, drawing more than 2,200 athletes from over 50 schools each March on the Barwon River in Geelong.

An inclusive event open to all schoolgirl rowers from Year 9 through to Year 12. A system of heats, repechages, semi-finals and finals ensures every crew finds its right level of competition over the weekend.

Everything You Need to Know

Dates & Schedule

Three days each March — heats Friday, repechages and semis Saturday, A Finals Sunday. The 2027 regatta begins 12 March at 8:00am on the Barwon River.

Venue

The Barwon River, Geelong — a dedicated four-lane course in the heart of the city. Open events 1500m; Year 9 & 10 events 1000m.

Events & Categories

40+ events across Eights, Coxed Quads, Fours, Doubles and Singles. Every crew competes in a heat and final minimum, with multiple divisions across all boat classes.

Spectators & Access

Free entry for all spectators. Outstanding vantage points the full length of the course, with a vibrant atmosphere, food stalls, and school tents lining the riverbank.

Live Stream & Results

All events live streamed throughout the weekend. Real-time results for every event and division published on Rowing Manager throughout racing.
